Miles Edgeworth (otherwise known as Mitsurugi Reiji in the japanese version) is the young prodigy prosecutor and Phoenix's rival in the first 3 games of the series.

Hasn't lost a single case since he began at the age of 20, Edgeworth is seen as a figure of stone, lacking of emotion and always stops at nothing to grab a guilty verdict for the defendant and put them behind bars. He's often seen as a conceated man of sly wit and intelligence; his manner upon speaking in court had led people astray to thinking all sorts of things, such as him participating in back-alley deals and even rumours flying around about forging evidence and manipulating witnesses. He has also been given the title as the "Demon" Prosecutor. Though his ways frequently lean towards the extreme, one thing that's common knowledge is that Edgeworth hates crime with a severe passion, and has no liking for defense attorneys what so ever.

Gregory Edgeworth was Miles' father, shortly after his death; Manfred von Karma had taken and raised him as a mentee in prosecution. Upon doing so he also grew up with Franziska von Karma, Manfred's daughter. Miles greatly admired his father as a defense attorney in court, and at a young age had ambitions to follow in his footsteps. But after a certain "incident", everything had changed from then on.

It is also known that Miles has a deathly fear of earthquakes.
